Effective scanner configurations can significantly improve workflow, enhance flexibility, and ensure accuracy in labeling and data management processes. Whether for fixed installations or mobile setups, it’s essential to choose the right scanner and imager to meet your operation’s specific needs. Below are some key options and setups that offer the best performance in various settings.
NOTE: Please refrain from installing the Zebra scanning software on mobile devices.
The Zebra scanning application conflicts with the proper functioning of Lucid Mobile and disrupts the scanning of Lucid IDs.
Fixed Installation
When installing a scanner in a fixed mounting location for hands free use, make sure to use “hands-free” or “presentation” scanners.
Optical Scanning
A phone or tablet can be installed using a fixed mount, with the camera facing down/away. LucidSource Mobile and LucidRetail Mobile Apps are fully compatible with using the rear-facing camera on all standard Android phones, iPhones and iPads.

External Imaging
An external Imager can be connected to an Android phone, iPhone or iPad to enable faster and more accurate scanning of LucidIDs and CaseIDs. LucidSource Mobile and LucidRetail Mobile both support using external imagers connected over USB (preferred) or Bluetooth.

Note: when connecting an external image to a mobile device over USB, you will likely need to provide power to the mobile device to enable continuous use. We recommend adding a Power & Data Dongle such as:

The Dongle needs to be Type-C male to Type-A female with power and data, suggest an OTG model and secondary Type-C port for charging the phone while connected to the scanner.
Mobile / Transportable
For mobile use, an Android Phone, iPhone, or iPad can be a perfect solution. While an external imager can be connected to the phone, handling 2 devices can sometimes be cumbersome. For environments, like warehouses and packaging facilities where the lighting cannot be controlled, or where access to the QR codes can sometimes be challenging, an external imager can be a useful addition.
